Prime Minister Barzani meets visiting U.S. officials

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) –Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani met with Brett McGurk, the US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, Andrew Peek, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Douglas Silliman, the US Ambassador to Iraq, and Ken Gross, the Consul General to Erbil.

In the meeting, also attended by KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the visiting delegation commended the de-escalation of tensions and positive talks between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad and expressed their support to serious dialogue between both sides.

The American delegation also voiced their support to the Kurdistan Region, the political process, and elections in the Region.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the American-led coalition and its significant role in the war against ISIS.  He said, it is important that the coalition continues to encourage Erbil and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues through dialogue.

With regard to the internal situation of the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister stressed that there are serious talks between the political parties in the Kurdistan Region and that all parties are for conducting elections.

The KRG and U.S. officials also discussed bilateral relations and latest developments in the broader region.
