Prime Minister Barzani meets US Envoy Brett McGurk

Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to counter the ISIS, Brett McGurk.


In the meeting, also attended by KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Mr. McGurk underlined the friendship between Erbil and Washington, wishing further development of relations in all fields.

Both sides hailed the de-escalation of tension between the Kurdistan Peshmerga and the Iraqi Forces and underlined the importance of beginning serious dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad based on the Iraqi Constitution.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the United States for the assistance and support it extended to the Kurdistan Region, expressing KRG’s hope to further expanding relations between Erbil and Washington.

He highlighted the important role the international community can play in preparing the ground for genuine dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad, adding that the Kurdistan Region has never favoured tension and confrontation and has always been ready for peaceful dialogue.

The two sides also discussed the current political and humanitarian situations in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.
