Prime Minister Barzani and US Ambassador stress the need for dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - In a meeting between Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and the US Ambassador to Iraq, Douglas Silliman on Thursday, both sides reiterated the need for further calm that has come about after the tensions between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

They stressed the need to prepare the ground to start serious dialogue between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad to resolve the outstanding issues based on the Iraqi federal Constitution.

The meeting was also attended by KRG Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani.

The formation of a KRG committee, expected to visit Baghdad and the reviewing of the Kurdistan Region’s payroll were also discussed.

In this regard, Kurdistan Region’s fair share in Iraq’s federal budget was stressed and both sides agreed that the efforts should be further intensified towards resolving the outstanding issues.

The general situation in the Kurdistan Region, the upcoming elections, the KRG reform programme in various sectors as well as the situation in the wider region, were also discussed in the meeting.
