Qubad Talabani attends a seminar of Iranian representatives

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Acting Prime Minister Qubad Talabani attended a seminar of the Islamic Republic of Iran`s representatives in Iraq and Kurdistan, held in Suleimaniya. Iran's ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, special representatives from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consuls and officials from Iranian representations in Iraq and Kurdistan were attended.

Bilateral ties, regional security and political developments and mutual economic interests were the main topics discussed during the seminar.

Mr. Masjedi expressed the willingness of his government to cooperate with the Kurdistan Region in various sectors based on common interests.

Acting Prime Minister Talabani stressed the important role that Iran can play in the development of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He highlighted Iran`s positive role in building peace and enhancing security in the region in general, urging that it continues on this same policy in the best interest of the people of Iraq, Kurdistan and the wider region.

Mr. Talabani also briefed the audience about the reforms adopted by the Kurdistan Regional Government. He stated that the KRG is working towards diversifying its economy with less reliance on oil. He recalled Islamic Republic of Iran's successful experience in the development of its industrial and agriculture sectors, which may be of example for the KRG.

Mr. Talabani also discussed the outstanding issues between the KRG and Iraqi federal government, stating that Iran can play an important role in helping to reach a satisfactory settlement for both sides.

He pointed out that a united and strong Kurdistan Region is in the interest of the wider region in general and Iran in particular. He stressed that the Kurdistan Region is willing to solve all outstanding issues based on the Iraqi federal Constitution.

Mr. Talabani reaffirmed that Kurdistan political parties should speak with one voice while preparing for the upcoming Iraqi elections and work to fulfil all the constitutional rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region.
